What is a Jackaroo / Jillaroo?

A Jackaroo / Jillaroo is a young man or woman, boy or girl gaining practical experience on a sheep or cattle property and often living as an apprentice in order to acquire the practical skills and experience needed to pursue work or a career on the land.

The Tobruk Jackaroo / Jillaroo camp offers the opportunity for kids to experience what is is like to live and work on a sheep station, learn new skills and have loads of fun in a safe and secure environment.

The Tobruk Camp Experience

Kids will enjoy this amazing property, the peaceful setting, the beautiful scenery and plentiful country home cooked meals. They’ll get to experience the life of a bushman and stockman first hand as they move from activity to activity under the watchful eye of experts. Forget about TV’s, playstations, mobile phones and the internet, this camp will see them spend 99% of their time outdoors and in the country fresh air. And w hen the sun sets over the Blue Mountains each day, and they sit around a campfire reflecting on what they have learnt that day, they’ll be treated to an old bush yarn, a sing-a-long or some bush poetry. By the end of the week, they will be the ones providing the entertainment. Finally after a great week, they’ll have fantastic memories of a true Australian station way of life, a new found appreciation for farm life and a host of practical skills to call upon in the future.

On the afternoon of the last day parents are encouraged to come and watch a display of the new skills acquired by our new Jackaroos and Jillaroos. This is not to be missed and you will be surpised at just how much your sons and daughters have learnt and how confident they have become. This will conclude with a short presentation of their certificates. Further details will be provided following booking.
